Once again Nike and the University of Oregon have teamed up for a uniform that is like no other. The Oregon Ducks will wear Nike's latest Pro Combat Uniform in the Rose Bowl on January 2nd. This new uniform features eleven different materials, including advanced thermoregulation using new Nike Chain Maille Mesh material.
Nike brought HGI on board to bring the finishing touch to this Pro Combat uniform's helmet. Utilizing HGI's proprietary HydroSkin® technology, HGI developed a mirrored appearance using a HydroChrome™ black finish never before seen on the field. HydroChrome™ finish is not achieved through a chrome plating process nor is it a simple spray paint chrome finish. The HydroChrome™ system is a proprietary 12 step process developed by HGI that is almost entirely performed with or under water. For additional photos, please visit the HGI Facebook page.
In the case of the Oregon Ducks helmet design, the helmets have to go through the HydroChrome™ process twice with the custom die cut masking of the wings being applied by hand between the bright chrome and the HydroChrome™. And be sure to watch the Duck's take on Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl on Jan 2nd at 1:30pm on ESPN.
